Deputy Jason Perkins, has been a Scotts Bluff County Sheriff's Deputy since 2003 and has been an Officer since 2001. Deputy Perkins became the K-9 handler in 2004.

As a narcotic detector K-9, Apache is trained to identify numerous odors of narcotics such as methamphetamine, marijuana, cocaine and heroine. Apache "indicates" his find by scratching at the location

K-9 Apache is certified as a narcotics dog through Oklahoma K-9 Academy, Nebraska State Patrol and National Police Canine Association.

As a patrol K-9, Apache is trained to locate the track left by a suspect, fleeing the scene of a crime and follows the track until he locates the suspect. Apache is also trained in apprehension and handler protection.

Deputy Jason Perkins and K-9 Apache are members of the USPCA Region 14 (Fort Collins, CO), members of DADDAC (Dogs Against Drugs-Dogs Against Crime) of Michigan, and a member of the Nebraska Canine Association. Deputy Perkins and K-9 Apache also work very closely with the WING Drug Task Force and the Scotts Bluff County SWAT Team.
