Warrants Clerk - Irene Torres

 

  "Every person sentenced to the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services shall within 30 days, be transported by the office of the County Sheriff."  This duty is imposed under the authority of Nebraska state statute 29-2401.

  In addition, when the return to this state of a person charged with a crime in this county is required, the extradition proceeding begins with the office of the Sheriff including the safe transportation of that person to Scotts Bluff County.  This duty is imposed under Nebraska statute 29-751.

 

STATISTICS

  A total of 33 individuals were extradited and/or transported to or from facilities in Ogallala, and North Platte, Nebraska as well as Torrington, Wyoming.    

   

  They included 29males and 4 females (33 of those were adults and 0 was a juvenile).

  *As a new feature of the report beginning this month, the following statistics will be added concerning the extradition and/or transportation of inmates to and/or from Scotts Bluff County:

Miles traveled:   2,225

Estimated Cost:  $2,528.80

 

  In an effort to minimize transportation costs and reduce liability concerns while at the same time maximize efficiency by keeping our deputies working in our county, many of the extraditions and transports are shared with private security/transport companies and/or the Northwest Cooperative Prisoner Shuttle or private security/transport companies.  17 of the August transports were placed on the shuttle and 1 was handled by private security.

  Judges of the District Court and judges of the County Court shall have power to issue process for the apprehension of any person charged with a criminal offense.  The warrant shall be directed to the Sheriff of the county.  This duty is imposed under the authority of Nebraska state statute 29-403 (1988 supplement.)

  Warrant Clerk, Irene Torres, is responsible for the administration of arrest warrants as well as Protection Orders filed at the office of the Scotts Bluff County Sheriff as well as arranging the (appropriate) extradition and/or transportation proceedings. 

  She is assisted by Administrative Lieutenant Ray Huffman.

STATISTICS: 

New warrants:  39 (for a total of 320 arrest warrants now on file)

Total (warrant) arrests: 32  (11 by Sheriff's deputies) 

Warrants returned:  2

Protection Orders on file:  144

Potentially Dangerous Offender records on file:  21

 

  As an arrest warrant is received from the court, it is assigned to a Deputy Sheriff on a rotation basis.  Attempts to apprehend these individuals and bring them before the court(s) are monitored by the Chief Deputy Sheriff.

 

STATISTICS: 

320 warrants on file June 2008  (289  warrants on file June 2007)  =  

10.7 % increase.
