W.I.N.G. Drug Task Force
Congress enacted the Anti-Drug Abuse (Byrne) Act of 1986 to increase the level of effort and resources devoted to combating drug abuse and trafficking. Also in 1986, the Governor designated the Nebraska Crime Commission as the state agency responsible for the administration and coordination of the Byrne Formula Grant Program.
As a result, Scotts Bluff County became a charter member of the Western Nebraska Intelligence and Narcotic Group, a multi-agency drug and violent crime task force created in 1989 with jurisdiction throughout the panhandle of Nebraska. The total grant allotment for the Western Nebraska Intelligence and Narcotics Group for 2007/08 was $163,442.
