West Nile Virus season is here again this year

The Health Department is collecting reports of all dead birds and testing Crows, Blue Jays. Hawks, Owls and Magpies that are found dead to help detect the presence of West Nile Virus(WNV) in our area.

Each summer the department collects adult mosquitoes, dead birds and monitores horse illness to provide an early warning for county residents to the presence of West Nile Virus.

West Nile VIrus is transmitted to humans through the bite of infected mosquitoes.

To reduce your risk of exposure to WNV we recommend that you use an approved mosquito repellent when outside in areas where mosquitoes are present and if possible, avoid the peak mosquito times of one hour before and after sunset and sunrise.
