Flood Control

Scotts Bluff County Flood Control Department

The County Flood Control Department maintains the Gering Valley Drain jointly with Gering-Fort Laramie Irrigation, Gering Irrigation, Central Irrigation and the North Platte Natural Resources District. It also maintains the Scottsbluff Drain jointly with the City of Scottsbluff. In addition, the Flood Control Department maintains small flood projects throughout the County.

Why does water run across roads in heavy rains?
Due to costs involved we can not install large enough culverts to carry more than a 5 year return rainfall.

Why don't you mow weeds at Scottsbluff's drain?
We are programming improvement products which flatten steep banks that will allow mowing.
